Related to country: Panama

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

We are having a rally for education in the Central Park of Boquete on January 16th form 2 – 4 PM. We will also hold an education rally in the small village of Palmira on January 15th from 7 – 9 PM. We will visit and perform a skit in the town of San Felix on January 17th at 8 PM. We will also visit villages on the morning and early afternoon of January 18th.

Businesses will donate food and drinks and paper for our readers. The students will visit local restaurants and ask for these donations.

Students will also distribute literacy readers in three languages that they have collaborated on in the fall semester of 2009. The design and printing of the readers will take place in Pennsylvania through donated materials. This trip is open to Panamanians and students from PA enrolled in PA Leadership Charter School. This is a public charter cyber school.

These simple literacy readers are written in …
Ngobe
Spanish
English

The main purpose of these booklets is to form a cultural bridge between the Ngobe indigenous people and the traditional Spanish and English speaking population.

This is the third year of this service learning experience. We hope to expand the rally to nearby village of Palmira. Students will also produce, direct and perform in a mime skit of Americans visiting Panama and distributing these readers in Native American villages. In addition to distributing the reader in Boquete and Palmera we will also be distributing the reader in the rural village of San Felix and the native American villages of Oma and others.
